About our Choir

The Leichhardt Espresso Chorus is a vibrant, enthusiastic group of community members who love to sing and make music. Since it’s inception in 1998 the choir has been directed by Michelle Leonard.

With over 80 members from the inner west and throughout greater Sydney - we are united in a commitment to make music together and enjoy the intense pleasure of singing a very wide musical repertoire. We derive great enjoyment from both music-making and social interaction. We’re from all walks of life, aged from sixteen to sixty five and love to sing together! We welcome singers across a range of musical knowledge and singing ability.

Our aims and objectives

We aim to stretch the boundaries of excellence in community music. In order to achieve this we:

• Promote choral music in our community and with community arts organisations.
• Promote choral music to children through workshops and joint projects.
• Promote choral music in remote communities in NSW through workshops and joint projects.
• Foster new Australian choral music by commissioning local composers.
